Veterinary specialists or "diplomates" are veterinarians who have pursued advanced training beyond veterinary school. Most specialties require a minimum of 4 years of internship and residency training after veterinary school and a rigorous credentialing and examination process to achieve the diplomate status. This means that most true veterinary specialists have a minimum of 12 years of college and post-graduate training.
Dr. Rose Lemarie is a board certified veterinary surgeon. She is a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, and completed her undergraduate education at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Dr. Lemarie is a graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Following veterinary school, she completed her internship at the Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine followed by her residency training in surgery at LSU. Dr. Lemarie has been practicing at Southeast Veterinary Specialists for 10 years.
Her interests include all areas of orthopedic, neurologic, and general surgery, however, her main interests are orthopedics and neurosurgery. Dr. Lemarie especially enjoys performing spinal surgery for intervertebral disk disease. In her spare time, Dr. Lemarie is a recreational runner and enjoys spending time with her husband of over 20 years, Dr. Stephen Lemarie. Their family consists of 2 dogs and 3 cats (Tasso, Andouille, Basil, Crawfish, and Rice).
Dr. Jude T. Bordelon, a Louisiana native, received his DVM from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. Following graduation, he completed a one year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery followed by a three year small animal surgical residency at Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Health Sciences. Following completion of his residency, Dr. Bordelon remained on staff as an assistant small animal surgery professor for two years prior to returning to Louisiana and joining the Southeast Veterinary Specialists group.
Dr. Bordelon’s surgical interests include minimally invasive surgical techniques (both orthopedic and soft tissue), joint replacement, and neurological surgery. Dr. Bordelon has also lectured on and published topics in orthopedics and neurosurgery. His other interests include a variety of outdoor activities and sports.
Dr. Stephen Lemarie is a board certified veterinary dermatologist. He is a native of New Orleans and completed his undergraduate education at Louisiana Tech. Dr. Lemarie is a graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. His residency training in dermatology was also performed at LSU. For the last 10 years, Dr. Lemarie has worked with referral dermatology cases throughout Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He was one of the first veterinary dermatologists in the country to utilize the Rush Immunotherapy Technique in dogs and cats with atopic dermatitis.
Dr. Lemarie's areas of interests include allergic, auto immune, and parasitic diseases of the skin. When he is not practicing dermatology, Dr. Lemarie actively trains and competes in the sport of powerlifting. He has been married to Dr. Rose Lemarie for over 20 years, and their family consists of 2 dogs and 3 cats (Tasso, Andouille, Basil, Crawfish, and Rice).
Dr. Kristen Fulham originally grew up on the Gulf Coast in Waveland, MS, although most of her family is from New Orleans, LA. Prior to entering veterinary school, Dr. Fulham completed her Masters in Physical Therapy at Louisiana State University in New Orleans in 2002. In 2007, she received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. She then completed a one-year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Southeast Veterinary Specialists (SVS) in Metairie, Louisiana. She subsequently completed a two- year co-residency program in dermatology, under the mentorship of Dr. Stephen Lemarie at SVS in association with Louisiana State University. Dr. Fulham is now a board certified dermatologist practicing full-time at SVS.
Dr. Fulham's special interests are autoimmune skin diseases and infectious disease. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, and watching LSU football.
Dr. Kenneth Ransom is a native of New Orleans. He attended Southeastern Louisiana University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology. Dr. Ransom later attended Louisiana State University receiving his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. After graduation Dr. Ransom returned to New Orleans and worked in a general practice setting prior to joining the team at Southeast Veterinary Specialists.
Although emergency medicine is what originally brought Dr. Ransom to our hospital, he now focuses primarily on canine rehabilitation. In 2008, Dr. Ransom completed his
certification in canine rehabilitation through the University of Tennessee. Dr. Ransom is one of only a few veterinarians in the state to hold such a certification.
Dr. Ransom has been married to his wife, Andre’, for the past 13 years. Together they have three children, Maycie, Elizabeth, and Evan. They also have two dogs and two rabbits.
