Who We Are

Our board certified veterinary dermatologists are uniquely qualified to treat the many skin diseases of pets. Skin disease can be particularly frustrating for pet owners and can affect both the lifestyle of the family and the quality of life of the patient. Ear disease is also considered part of the specialty of dermatology. Our dermatology service can diagnose and treat problems ranging from allergic dermatitis to autommune skin disease.

Appointments

The dermatology service sees new appointments Monday through Friday. Initial evaluations include a thorough dermatologic examination and consultation. After the initial examination, the doctor will develop an individualized diagnostic and treatment plan tailored for your pet. Most dermatologic problems do not require hospitalization, however your pet may need to spend part of a day with us for a procedure.

Allergic dermatitis (Atopy)

patient with allergic dermatitis

It's allergy season again, and dogs and cats are particularly sensitive to allergic skin disease. Intradermal allergy testing is the most effective way to find out what your pet is allergic to. After this information is known, your pet can be de-sensitized using an allergy vaccine developed specifically for him or her. The allergy vaccine is usually administered as a shot, however the new sublingual (oral) immunotherapy is available at SVS. Desensitization is a safe, effective way to control allergies without the need for harmful medications.
