The Diagnostic Imaging (Radiology) service at Southeast Veterinary Specialists is a little different from our other services. It is the only service that does not see patients directly, however provides support to all of our specialists. Dr. Beth Partington is our board certified veterinary radiologist and an incredible asset to our team. Dr. Partington interprets our digital images (radiographs, ultrasound, and MRI) and consults with our specialists to support their diagnoses and case management. Dr. Partington also serves as a resource for general veterinarians by providing outpatient ultrasounds on Thursdays (see below).
Outpatient ultrasound appointments with Dr. Partington can be scheduled by any veterinarian. Appointments are available on Thursdays, and the ultrasound results will be communicated directly to the veterinarian ordering the procedure. The pet will need to be dropped off in the morning, and the owner will be contacted after their ultrasound examination is complete. The owner will get the ultrasound results and any recommendations for further treatment directly from their regular veterinarian. If the regular veterinarian chooses to refer the case to one of our specialists after hearing the results of the ultrasound, that can be easily arranged.
Southeast Veterinary Specialists is the home of the first MRI for veterinary use in the state of Louisiana. Our MRI is an open unit that allows access to the patient for monitoring while the patient is anesthetized. The MRI provides a noninvasive way to see into areas that would otherwise not be possible.
The MRI procedure is very sensitive to movement resulting in the need for general anesthesia. For this reason, it is not performed on an outpatient basis and a relationship with one of our specialists is required. Dr. Partington reads all the MRI studies performed at SVS. Appointments are scheduled with the most appropriate service (Internal Medicine, Oncology, or Surgery) based on the history of the patient.
